Over the next 5 years, UT-Dell Med will undergo a rapid scaling that includes opening a greenfield, tertiary academic hospital adjacent to MD Anderson's new cancer center hospital, expanding ambulatory facilities, recruiting over 300 new physicians and advanced providers, and establishing the data and technology infrastructure to enable this transformation. The Senior Director of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery serves as the dyad partner to the inaugural Chair of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. Together, they oversee the operational, service, quality financial, and strategic performance of the department. Purpose Serve as the Senior Director to the Chair and other members of the Department senior leadership team across the mission pillars for the School and Department. In partnership with the Chair and other senior leaders, contribute to the strategy, build and maintain programs, ensure exceptional patient experience, high quality care, operational excellence and appropriate fiduciary stewardship and help steer the direction for the Department. Coordinate department operations, budget development and financial reporting, faculty recruitment, and staff development. Expected to serve and contribute to overall organizational effectiveness and be assigned a variety of organizational work teams, committees and task forces as workload capacity allows. Responsibilities
Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. MBA, MHA, etc.) or equivalent high-level leadership experience. At least seven (7) years of experience in leadership positions in health-related organizations. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment with physician, scientist, educator, administrative, supervisory, and allied health staff. Demonstrated experience with managing a complicated and complex organization with multiple stakeholders. Strong financial and funds flow experience and acumen managing various sources of funding streams. High-level communication skills. Ability to exercise resourcefulness and good judgment in a fast-paced environment. Ability to manage multiple streams of work. Demonstrated excellent analytical skills, problem-solving ability and strong critical thinking skills. Proven success in operational excellence and performance improvement. The Dell Medical School is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to excellence within the learning health system. The successful candidate should have excellent communications skills, leadership abilities, and possess the highest ethical standards. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred QualificationsOrganization building experience. Large-scale implementation experience. Previous experience in a surgical department or departments working directly with surgeons in academic medicine is strongly preferred, including managerial expertise in clinical, academic, faculty affairs, training program administration, and/or clinical program development and operations in an academic setting. Previous experience in a Cardiac surgery, Cardiac-Cardiology service line, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery department or division Experience and knowledge of Dell Medical financial and academic policies, processes and systems.
