The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Project Manager, Physical Security, reporting to the Assistant Director of Technology Projects, will lead cross-functional teams-including internal stakeholders, contractors, and service technicians-to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest security standards. This role requires expertise in security technologies such as access control, video surveillance, and alarm systems, alongside a forward-thinking approach to incorporating new trends in physical security.

As a member of the Public Safety Department, the Project Manager will oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of physical security projects across multiple campuses, including Morningside, CUIMC, and Manhattanville, as well as other Columbia-owned or operated facilities. These projects focus on integrating advanced, technology-based security solutions to enhance safety, streamline operations, and protect the Columbia University community.

The position also involves providing critical support during crisis situations to ensure the Public Safety Department maintains operational continuity and responds effectively during emergencies.

Responsibilities




  • Project Planning and Scheduling



    • Develop detailed project plans, define scope, set timelines, and allocate resources.
    • Maintain accurate project documentation, track progress, and provide comprehensive updates to stakeholders and leadership.



  • Stakeholder Communication and Management



    • Regularly update stakeholders, gather feedback, and ensure alignment with project goals.



  • Risk Management and Mitigation



    • Identify and assess potential risks, developing strategies to mitigate or manage them throughout the project lifecycle.



  • Quality Control and Assurance



    • Ensure project deliverables meet established standards and requirements through diligent monitoring and evaluation.




Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience managing physical security projects, including risk assessments and the development of electronic security solutions.
  • Proficiency in using project management tools to track timelines, tasks, resources, and deliverables.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to team members, stakeholders, and supervisors.
  • Strong attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset to identify obstacles and implement solutions efficiently.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Knowledge of electronic locking hardware, enterprise access control systems, CCTV, and digital recording systems.
  • Project management certification, demonstrating familiarity with industry-standard methodologies and best practices.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar software, with the ability to interpret and utilize architectural drawings.
