Job Description

General Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Controller, the Senior Director, Global Accounting Services is a critical leadership role that will help to drive and scale the Company's global accounting shared services. This role is responsible for service delivery across a broad scope of financial processes. leading a diverse global shared service team and working with multiple stakeholders on a global basis. The Senior Director will review, design and continuously improve service delivery standards and drive the development of the shared service staff and upgrade capabilities to support Vertex's continued business growth.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct all aspects of Vertex's global accounts payable, payroll, stock administration, and tax mobility teams
  • Effectively manage and develop the global shared services team that meets increasing needs and requirements across the business and helps drive the overall organization forward
  • Plan and execute for impacts to accounting processes and systems driven by Vertex growth from new product introductions, global expansion activities, and business development.
  • Drive the adoption of common processes and standards across the company and in partnership with internal stakeholders.
  • Identifies ways to scale the operation while improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting shared services function, with a focus on automation
  • Develop and monitor metrics and key performance indicators that drive best practices
  • Maintain and develop a strong framework of controls in line with Sarbanes Oxley guidance and other International requirements
  • Work closely and communicate effectively with corporate partners in Sourcing, Procurement Operations, Corporate Finance, Treasury, and IT to ensure that corporate information and support needs are consistently met.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Strong communicator with the ability to collaborate cross functionally
  • Previous leadership role of significant accounting operations team on a global scale
  • Finance process excellence or Six-Sigma experience a significant plus.
  • Experience in a publicly traded large biotechnology/pharmaceutical company preferred
  • Large ($1B+) multinational industry experience preferred
  • ERP/Accounting system experience, Oracle expertise a big plus

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting required
  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of progressive, relevant accounting shared services leadership experience, including the management of teams that are geographically dispersed

Pay Range:

$204,000 - $306,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
